A little scared here--any insights?

Hello all, and thanks in advance. My midwife has not gotten back to me, it has been a week, and I have an appointment with a fertility specialist for next week, but I am really going crazy NOW. I am hoping that I might find sympathy for my impatience at this forum, as well as perhaps some insight from real women who have perhaps had similar issues. I have been TTC for about 9 months now; I turned 37 last month. About 4-5 months ago I got a Clearblue monitor and discovered that my cycles were all perfectly 14/28. Last month I paid a visit to my midwife. She said that all was probably well if my cycles were that regular, but gave me a lab sheet anyway–the result was that my FSH was high: 12.8. That said, I’ll skip the parts about how I got off the phone with her thinking this was actually good news, etc., and fast forward.

So I got my blood tested on day 3 (obviously) and then at day 9 I had both an unusual reading on my fertility monitor (2 bars, which usually happens at day 11/12, just a few days before ovulation), and I also had a great deal of blood-tinged cervical mucus. I was unalarmed at the time; I hadn’t gotten my “bad” results back, and just shrugged it off. Then, after months of perfectly regular cycles, I did not ovulate until CD 18. This was so strange for me. Now, here it is, 15 days later, CD 33, and I have not gotten my period. Pregnancy tests are negative. Midwife not in any hurry to call me. Can anyone provide any insight here? I don’t know if all of these things together might make sense to anyone out there, but in the absence of advice from a medical practitioner, I’m really anxious to hear of any possibly similar experiences?

Oh, and one more thing–I keep feeling twinges quite low on the right side of my abdomen. I keep hoing that (either my midwife will get back to me or) someone will have had just this array of symptoms…

I just wanted to know that I read your post, but I don’t really have any info for you. Sorry :nerd: . Has the midwife called you back? Do you have an appt with an RE, or even an OB/GYN?

I dont have a lot of insight either but would say, it is time to go to a RE. I started with a midwife who was great to support me in my first pregnancy but after a miscarriage and now a host of other fertility issues the one thing I wish I would have done is just go to an RE. My midwife wasnt even going to follow up after my crappy FSH, she was like no its fine, then another Dr. greed to do AMh which was way worse then my FSH. Not to alarm you because 12 isnt the end of the world and I am sure you will be okay, but just to say its time to talk to someone who specializes in this. I wish I could be more help with your symptoms. Hang in there.

I am 36 now and I had 13.5 FSH a year ago. My RE said anything above 10 is not normal. So It is all downhill for me in terms of number of eggs and inreturn quality of eggs. As you can see in my signature, I did quite a few unsuccessful IUI’s. I couldn’t afford IVF. Luckily I got pregnant naturally by fluke and also acupuncture. Right before my pregnancy, my RE pretty much said I have 5% chance of making it becuase of poor quality eggs.
If I were u, I would rush to an RE and start IUI’s or IVF.
Also, I would advice on acupuncture. It improves egg quality. But u need 3 months time for that. They nurture our eggs to be strong and healthy. So plan to go to acupunture 3 months before u plan to go for an IUI/IVF.

I don’t have any info on irregular period. Wish u all the best.

congrats!

Congratulations to those of you who are pregnant, and thank you for taking the time to read and reply! I am seeing an RE on Monday, and I hope no one thinks I am silly for writing like this five days before my appointment. But it is just so frustrating to go from having a perfectly normal cycle for as long as I had been keeping track to having all of these crazy symptoms happen so suddenly during the same month–the same month I actually had my first fertility blood test! No amount of google searching connects any of my symptoms, and I know that my midwife is really busy–she does try to respond as best she can between deliveries… Of course, I don’t know if my FSH was normal when my cycle was regular, but I thought that maybe by reaching out to popular knowledge I might stumble across someone who has had the same combination of symptoms… And of course, I keep thinking that I might be pregnant, but then I reminded me that the “weirdness” of this cycle started well before my LH surge. I know I just have to wait it out–and keep taking pregnancy tests every morning! Thanks again.

Another advantage with RE is that they are open 7 days and will respond within half day as they know importance of each cycle.

Thanks, Sam–I really didn’t know that!

Are you taking any supplements like melatonin? I ask you this because I noticed that my ovulation / menstrual cycles were off when I took melatonin. Another thing to keep in mind: emotional stress can really throw you cycle off and can increase your FSH. I have noticed it within myself and friends. That said, FSH levels are variable- just like you antral follicle count. I have seen women older than you with higher FSH readings get pregnant. I’d find an RE that believes that!!

Be mommy

I’m pregnant. I’m going to have a baby about 4 weeks later so I’m wondering about how to use birth control a after giving a birth. Want to join and share with you.:flower:

I wouldn’t worry too much about being a bit irregular. My cycles are like clockwork but almost once a year I will have a month where I am several days early or late and everything is thrown off. I chalk it up to stress during those times.

Good luck!!

I’ve been taking Chaste tree berry root and red raspberry tea for about four months, but didn’t introduce any new supplements until a week ago: DHEA. I wanted to start that right away after I got the bad diagnosis with the FSH. Day 34 now, still no period. And I thought that the one thing that was predictable about cycles was that you menstruate 14 days after you ovulate. My LH surge was definitely day 18. I have been feeling very “hard” in my belly last night and today, and I’ve got myself half-convinced that I am pregnant–but another negative test this morning. Maybe it is just some kind of gastro-intestinal thing (I eat a lot of dark greens and beans these days). I took some charcoal this morning just in case it is an upset stomach. And I left another message with my midwife. I wish I could stop being hopeful…Thanks again for your responses, it really helps!!
