Decided to take a holistic approach, hopefully that works

#1

Hello ladies,
My husband and I have been trying for what feels like an eternity. We have decided, or should I say “I” have decided to take a break. I can’t do it emotionally or physically anymore!!! My husband wants me to stick it out for just a little longer, but I can’t. He doesn’t quite understand, but at least he is supporting my decision. Last cycle was supposed to be my last, but I decided to try one more time and as far as I can tell I will be getting :af: very soon. So I’m assuming I am not pregnant, I know my body and I feel it coming on :frowning:

I decided to make an appointment with a holistic Dr. in the area. Since my diagnosis is “unexplained” I thought it wouldn’t do any harm to see what this new Dr finds. Maybe I’m eating all the wrong foods, or my blood work will show something that no other Dr has caught onto. My appt is Feb 16th.

I know that I’m reaching for an answer, but honestly maybe he will find SOMETHING!

Has anyone else taken a break and tried the holistic approach?

Thanks for any info, support, or encouragement you can give!

I didn’t go with a holistic approach, but we did take a break after 6iui’s and 1ivf and not one bfp. I was diagnosed as unexplained infertility for the entire time we tried.

Ultimately I took a break, and when I felt ready, got a second opinion from another specialist. She suggest I take a few months off and just chart my cycles with the basal body temperature chart. At that point she determined my really short luteal phase, and said if we wanted to keep trying naturally to go for it but use progesterone after I ovulate. Two months later, I was pregnant with my son.

The stress I was under with back to back cycles was just too much for me to handle, and I was happy for the break. I know how extremely lucky we were that it all worked, and if you feel like it’s a good thing for you mentally/emotionally/physically to go this route do it. Even if I hadn’t found out what was ultimately wrong with me, just having that break from the shots and day to day appointments did wonders for me. And you just never know what a new doctor will find! Best of luck to you :grouphug:

Naprotechnology and Creighton Method

I think it is a great idea. I really wanted to get to the underlying causes of my infertility…and so many DR just suggest $$ treatments that cover up the real problems and stress your body. The natural way can take longer but it can also CURE you.

I and several GFs use the Creighton Method combined with Naprotechnology. I have learned so much about my body and am stoked to be finding out what is wrong with me and trying to find natural cures and make us a baby:)

Here is website to find a practitioner near you-http://www.fertilitycare.org/ you have to get one that knows it well and tell them you want a complete cycle profile- it uncovered soo much for me!
(PCOS, prone to MC, low CM, severe PMS and Insulin resistance!) I am still amazed they found all of that!
(well I had to do careful charting of my biomarkers for several months as well) that helped with the diagnosis.:nerd:

So now I am doing a low glycemic diet and taking supplements to balance the hormones that are low and I just plain feel better. Plus I am seeing improvements in my fertility.

OH and did I mention the cost!? Some of the rx can get $$ as they are compounded at a special pharmacist…but overall it is very inexpensive!

Anyway I am a fan:cheer: and hoping for my PG soon with this method.:cross:

lots of luck and :babydust:

Thank you both for your encouragement, information, and thoughts on this approach. Unfortunately, I did get:af: today. I knew I would, but it’s still very difficult to deal with.

I am looking forward to meeting this Dr and pray that even if he doesn’t find the “reason” for my infertility, maybe he will help me to get overall healthy! I feel that all of the cycles with meds have really taken a toll on my body.

I am looking forward to getting a fresh perspective, for sure!!!

Thank you again for sharing your story :thankyou:

I too have decided to take a break and try a holistic approach after a few trying and very expensive cycles (see signature). I’d love if we all can keep sharing and learning from each other.

After much contemplation. Me and my DH had a long talk. I feel like I’ve just run my body down over the last year. It took 750IU and 900IU doses this time to get things growing. I’ve decided to take some time off and just focus on getting my health both mentally and spiritually back in tip top shape before we try another procedure. I know it’s a risk given I’m already 43 but it feels right.

We are pausing until June or July. During this time I will take my supplements, exercise regularly, incorporate nutrition recommendations from “The Fertility Diet” and rely more heavily on my acupuncturist and TCM (traditional Chinese medicine).

A couple great books to read are “The Fertility Diet” and “The Fertility Cure” by Dr. Randine Lewis. Good information on TCM. So at least I can focus on alternative natural methods that can truly work while I regroup. That way the time won’t feel “wasted”.

What supplements are you ladies taking?

BFP with the Fertility Cure Method

Hi Ladies-
Well :af: and I are hanging out tonight! Allowing myself some treats and time on the sofa- so its a nice Friday night

My GF who has 7 years of IF just started reading the Fertility Cure and actually met with Dr. Lewis! BECAUSE her SIL got a :bfp: after 4 years of IF using his method for only a year!
Anyone feeling :bsv: ?

She wants me to try it as well- but to be honest I am nervous. I am doing another version of the holistic route right now and still uncovering what is wrong with me- whereas she has already found endo and had a surgery etc…so if you are reading it-and trying that please fill us in!
You asked about supplements-
This will be my third month on supplements that include:
B6 compounded (from a special pharmacy)
Optivites
Flax seed
Evening PrimRose oil until ovu
Time BD with OPK and watching CM

now starting or on second month of:
Metformin ER
Fertile CM
using Pre~seed during BD during fertile days
Following a low glycemic diet (as best I can)
Guafesmin during fertile days
Grapefruit juice (fresh) during fertile days
cutting caffeine drastically

so that is my current regimen.
All I know is I feel so much better than I did months ago:cheer:

would love to hear what you all are learning as well!

For instance- I just talked to girl who has PCOS and took clomid for 8 months only to find out that it was INCREASING her cysts size. Why would a DR do that?
My doc said we can try clomid but only for 3 months in a row- if you don’t get PG then something else needs to be fixed.

hope everyone is well:flower:

I would love to be able to take a break! While we have done 2 failed IUI’s, 1 IVF resulting in OHSS, but luckily 6 frozen embryos, 1 FET resulting in pregnancy (ya!) but just found out at 7 week ultrasound that there wasn’t a baby. So now we wait for another ultrasound to make sure it is empty. So mentally I am done, and a break would be nice. I’ve looked into the fertility diet, and there is alot of great information in there. My problems are unexplained, like so many others. Good luck to you, let us know if the holistic approach works!

Well, I don’t think it could hurt…

Hello everyone: I had an Acupuncture appointment today. We updated my health questionnaire so my Acupuncturist could adjust my herbs accordingly. It had been a year since I completed it and after 5 stimulated cycles during that year she said my Kidney Yin was pretty depleted. So she adjusted things to replenish my system. She also gave some great food recommendations and a couple supplements. I plan to go fully natural/holistic for the next 6+ months. I’m also back in the gym regularly. 4-5x a week.

I take one blend of TCM herbs from AF until ovulation then switch to another after ovulation until AF. I also take these vitamins.

Raspberry Leaf tea (at least 1c per day)
Prenatal w/Folate and DHEA
Vit. D3 (for a deficiency I have)
Omega 3 Fish Oil
COq-10
Probiotics
Royal Jelly 2x day
Pycnogenol 2x day
myo-Inositon 2x day
Cinnamon Extract
Wheat Grass (a.m.)
Chlorella (p.m.)

It’s quite a list but it’s all natural stuff and I’m feel quite healthy and energetic! Much better than I did when I was shoot up on all the stim meds daily. Is anyone out there taking other things?

As for food and lifestyle: No refined/processed foods and carbs, No cow dairy (use alternatives), No coffee, caffeine, alcohol, soda, fruit juice, Avoid OTC meds & NSAIDs /ibuprofen /decongestants /antihistamine /excess vit C (can use expectorant ), Avoid too many sugars /sweeteners /juices, Avoid too much raw veggies and cold foods. And lots of good food recommendations from my Acupuncturist and “The Fertility Cure”.

:cheer: to giving all natural a try for a while. Who knows, if nothing else I’ll certainly be healthy and fit! But praying we get a :bfp: out of this too.

Infertility Cure

Hi bon-
I just started reading the infertility cure last night and am a long way from where you are! But am slowly making the same diet changes! I have not gone to the acupuncturist yet but from the questionnaire in the book I think I am depleted in the Kidney yin as well.
Take courage on the diet changes! Its not forever…and from what the doc says it will help sustain the pg and have a healthier birth when all of the deficiencies have been found.

Please continue to share on what you are doing! I saw on Dr. Lewis website she does phone consults…I may consider that in a few months…:babydust:
for all!

Holistic approach

Hey ladies

I have started acupuncture about a month ago and my Blood levels and stress level has defiantly decreased. For the first time I was able to see a change in my CM. she changed my diet, lost 17lbs so far, put me on CoQ10 and wheatgrass. I went to RE Monday and he stated my UL was the best it has ever looked. I think you need to believe and be open to the holistic approach and follow the instructions as strange as some of them are. I wish all you ladies luck we are all in thIs together and we will get through this.

Hello everyone. I’m waiting for my first full cycle post my last IVF attempt. I’m still working with TCM and acupuncture. I’m also getting more consistent with my work outs and eating my fertility foods.

I have a follow up with my RE tomorrow to discuss my failed Jan. IVF. I’m interested in knowing if he has other protocols to try with me. After meeting with him I’ll then schedule consults with a few other REs.

I’m hoping that by July all of this will be a moot point because I will have gotten pregnant naturally.

I’m also charting my BBT and will review that with my acupuncturist. Although I saw a change in my CM and the OPK showed ovulation on day 19 my temp did not spike as it should have on my BBT chart. Hummmm. Will have to find out what that’s all about.

The journey continues. TOYA!!!
