Insurance Company Peer to Peer Review?

This is my first post on these boards. I have been stalking the website for a while though:)

So I just found out that my insurance company denied coverage for IVF because the my RE did not submit sufficient proof that my husband and I have been trying to concieve for 12 or more months.

My RE called to let us know this and that he is completely miffed as to what they require to prove this, it’s not like people document these things officially, I mean do they want year old negative pregnancy tests or something (lol)?

So my RE said he would be setting up a peer to peer review with the insurance company doctor that denied the request to try and straighten things out.

Has anyone else ever had to go through this with their insurance company to get the go ahead to start treatments? So weird to me…
