Treatments you tried before IVF: 4 Clomid IUIs, 1 femara IUI
How many IVF did you do before success: First try took!
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: no
Clinic: Oregon Reproductive Medicine
Doctor: Dr. Bankowski

What day you got your BFP: day 6
HPT before blood test: Yup
Number of first beta: 246 at 10 days post transfer
Number of babies: 1
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process! Half of me wishes I would have gone with my gut and skipped all the IUI’s since they don’t have a high success rate with male factor. I spent a lot of my emotional and financial resources, not to mention a year of my life on those. The other half of me thinks that all those unsuccessful tries showed my doctor how my body works, and is the reason that this cycle went so smoothly!

Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: how to keep myself sane and occupied during the insanity of the process – and not to do it while working and attending graduate school - and more about the side effects (emotional) of the medications

etc…

We were asked to see a grief counselor because the prognosis was so slim. We deliberated and prayed for over a year after being told it was our last option before going forward with IVF. I have a portion of one ovary and half of the other. Stats are below in my signature. I’m also entering treatment at 250 lbs, 5’3. The pregnancy is going well, 1/2 way through this Thursday, and he’s fluttering about in my tummy right now as I type. It’s simply amazing.

My best wishes for you on your fertility journey <3

#878

Name: Marylin
Age: 37
How long TTC: 13 years, off and on
Diagnosis or any known issues: Me - PCOS, overweight Hubby- Type 1 Diabetic, MFI
Name of Clinic: Women and Infants Reproductive and Endocrinology
Name of Doctor: Dr. Beth Plante
Treatments you tried before IVF: clomid, 2 IUIs
How many IVF did you do before success: 1 Fresh IVF, 1 FET
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: No
Protocol (meds taken): gonal-f, lupron
How many follicles at ER: 29
How many eggs retrieved: 16
How many eggs fertilized:7 (day one fertilized), 7 (day two fertilized)
How many days between ER and ET: 3 (my bday!)
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: Unknown
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: extremely tired, napped almost every day after work. Also had mild OHSS.
What day you got your BFP: 12d3dt (should have actually tested on Christmas!)
HPT before blood test: No - swore them off after previous cycle ended with m/c
Number of first beta: 60
Number of babies: 1 beautiful baby! Cried my eyes out at ultrasound!
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process! Don’t give up! I had almost come to the point where I thought I would never be a mommy. Ever. Really take the time to read through this forum and get yourself up to speed with what others have gone through - lots of the ladies here (while I mostly lurked) helped me, whether they know it or not, through some of the rougher days in my road to have this baby. Plus there are a lot of medical things that not every doctor will do but if you ask, they are willing - if they aren’t then find another doctor.

Also - find some IRL friends to talk to - really talk to - someone who knows about struggling with pregnancy or m/c - they are the LIFE savers because when you have good and bad days, they will NEVER judge you for it.

Lastly, prayer is a most powerful tool and even if you aren’t religious, mediation/prayer can be extemely helpful. Having down time to just breathe and not let your mind get caught up in all the crazy day to day drama can work wonders. A close friend suggested this to me and it helped me through this last cycle - before I went to bed each night I sprinkled some lavender oil on my pillows and would rub a bit into my arms so when I was laying down I could just take some deep breaths with that scent. Even if it’s for the relaxation - take the time to have down time for you. This process is stressful on our minds, hearts and bodies. Good luck!

Name: Kari
Age: 37
How long TTC: 3 years after birth of 1st
Diagnosis or any known issues: Me - PCOS-like ovaries, type 2 diabetes, incompetent cervix, transabdominal cerclage, prior miscarriage
Hubby- none
Name of Clinic: Baylor Reproductive Endocrinology, now a part of Texas Children’s Hospital
Name of Doctor: Dr. Kovanci (he is a wonderful man!)
Treatments you tried before IVF: 1 IUI, we were fortunate that insurance covered a portion of the treatments, so we moved to IVF quickly before $ ran out!
How many IVF did you do before success: worked 1st time!!!
Are you using donor eggs or sperm:No
Protocol (meds taken): Long Lupron cycle, Gonal-F, Menopur
How many follicles at ER: lots and lots and lots
How many eggs retrieved: 11, 9 mature
How many eggs fertilized: 6, transferred 2, 3 made in to blast and 1 stopped developing
How many days between ER and ET: 3
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 2 transferred, can’t remember rating, but doc said they were excellent!
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: nauseous, sore breasts, tired, crazy emotional, typical pregger stuff
What day you got your BFP: 6d3dt
HPT before blood test: of course!!!
Number of first beta: 136
Number of babies: Twin boys!!! Born @ 36 weeks weighing in at 6 lbs 3 oz and 7 lbs! Now 5 months old, healthy and happy!

I found the IVF process to be stressful and difficult, but also incredibly fascinating. I actually woke up during the egg retrieval and watched the follicles being emptied before the docs sent me back to a drug-induced lala land. Now, I look at my sweet boys and wonder if they came from those follicles!

Don’t give up. I was on Lupron for something like 18 days because the doc was worried about OHSS. It seemed like forever, but I am so glad we were cautious. My husband was an amazing support system, but be prepared that some people will have really mean spirited things to say. If your hormones are out of whack (and whose aren’t during IVF???), be cautious about what you share with whom.

Lastly, relax and enjoy the ride. Yes, it’s stressful. Yes, it’s expensive and yes, it consumes every moment of your life during the cycle. But you are creating life! How amazing is that? What a gift!!!

My success

Name: Erin
Age: 33
How long TTC: 3 years (1 natural, 2 assisted)
Diagnosis or any known issues: I don’t ovulate/ovulate regularly, minor male issues as well
Treatments you tried before IVF: Clomid + IUI (3 cycles), Femara + IUI (2 cycles), Femara + timed intercourse (chemical pregnancy) Gonal-F + IUI (4 cycles, 2 pregnancies - 1 terminated @ 12 w, 1 m/c @ 7 w)
How many IVF did you do before success: Technically we became pregnant on our 2nd IVF cycle, but the first was cancelled prior to ER due to poor response, so really, success came the first time we made it all the way to ER.
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: No
Protocol (meds taken): “Micro-dose flare” protocol: Micro-dose Lupron, Gonal-F, Menopur; Baby Aspirin and high dose (4mg) folic acid for clotting factor mutations; ovidrel to trigger; progesterone inserts starting day of ET through 8 weeks gestation.
How many follicles at ER: Unknown
How many eggs retrieved: 11, 9 mature
How many eggs fertilized: 7
How many days between ER and ET: 3
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 3 embryos transferred of “average” quality - an 8, 7, and 6-cell
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: A little bloating and sore breasts - would easily have missed these symptoms if I hadn’t been looking for them.
What day you got your BFP: 14 dp3dt
HPT before blood test: Yes, 11 dp3dt - I had DH read the results - I couldn’t do it!
Number of first beta: 432 (2nd was 1052)
Number of babies: 1, my son was born 7/28/12 - I didn’t want to post my success until I actually had a baby in my arms:)
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process!
The IVF process wasn’t as bad as we expected, especially after going through all of the IUI/injection cycles - it’s not that much different but for a few extra injections and the ER/ET. Share you struggle with a few people, but be careful about who. I wound up semi-regretting telling a very close friend - her comments sometimes were not helpful or supportive, unfortunately. Happy endings are possible, so keep the faith:) We had 2 pregnancy losses, 3 if you count a chemical pregnancy, and the first, tragically was actually a termination and heartbreaking. We were almost ready to give fertility treatments some time off (they are tough on the body and I needed a break) and had just kicked off the adoption process when this cycle worked. I truly believe the adoption process put me in a better place mentally and contributed to our success. Best wishes to all!:babydust:

Ok- I suppose I can post on this thread now- at 1 day shy of 25 wks…:flower:

Name of Clinic: Mid- Iowa Fertility
Name of Doctor: Donald Young
Treatments you tried before IVF: none, once we found DH’s issues. We initially assumed it would just be my already known annovulation issues, and we would be able to do injectibles+IUI like I had for DS#1& #2 (from prior marriage)
How many IVF did you do before success: We did 1 Fresh, then 1 FET, then success with 2nd fresh cycle.
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: No
Protocol (meds taken): baby aspirin, Microdose Lupron+ Follistim and Repronex, PIO, & estrogen patches after ER. till 8wks(estrogen) and 12 wks(PIO)
How many follicles at ER: They didn’t tell me, I didn’t ask.
How many eggs retrieved: 11
How many eggs fertilized: 2 (devasted when got that call as of course we used ICSI due to the fairly severe male factor, and had a much higher fert rate on the first cycle.
How many days between ER and ET: 3
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 2- they said they looked good- my clinic doesn’t really give you ratings on 3 day embryos.
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: Most were attributable to the progesterone/estrogen, but my first symptom which did start during the 2WW was dizziness and headaches.
What day you got your BFP: 9dp3dt (HPT) beta was 12dp3dt.
HPT before blood test: yes- 9dp3dt
Number of first beta: 377
Number of babies: 1
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: 1) transfers don’t always go so smoothly. My first 2 were terrible due to my cervical issues- being kind of wonky- with a curve/turn. So much so that we planned to do a tubal transfer (ZIFT) on day 3 for this transfer. During ER- my RE did a mock transfer on a whim while I was under sedation and got right in, so we decided to try doing a regular transfer on day 3, but if they couldn’t get in smoothly on the first try, we’d go to a tubal transfer via laparascopy/General anesthesia- got lucky and the transfer went easy peasy!

 1. Don’t get hung up on the numbers- and try hard not to compare yourselves with others. sometimes less knowledge (your follie measurements day to day for example) is better for your stress level.

 2. Most people don’t get frosties, so don’t feel bad if you don’t have any to freeze. It is more common NOT to have any than to have some, and has no bearing on the success of your fresh cycle.
