What is the average out of pocket cost for all the IVF meds? Where is the cheapest you have found them.

Medco has denied my prescriptions even though we have coverage.:grr: With our clinic closing the last 2 weeks in Dec, we dont have time to fight it out first. I am going to have my doctor file an appeal, but I scheduled to start Lupron tomorrow.

I had that filled and it is being delivered today, but how much more can I expect to pay.

I’m older, so we’re stimming me pretty aggressively. Just to give you an idea on the higher end, my meds were about $4000. That’s for 14 days of Lupron, 2 vials of Menopur/day (about $1800-1900), and 300 IUs Gonal-F/day ($2080 for 8 pens), plus a few minor things like the trigger, dexamethasone, and doxycycline (a few hundred $ total). That’s all a cash pay/no insurance. That does not include the PIO shots or estrace, since I didn’t order those yet.

The nurse warned me that Gonal-F is much more expensive from anyone but Freedom Fertility Pharmacy, so if you are doing G-F, make sure you get it from there. Also, another trick, apparently the pens are overfilled a bit, like 100-150 IUs extra. My clinic has you bring in the used ones and they’ll use a syringe to draw out the extra to get you one or two extra doses out of the used pens and save you some cash.

My meds cost me $2800.

Insurance covered lupron and i paid only $10 for it.

i got 10 days supply of menour and bravelle shots ( 2 vials per day) that i paid out of pocket

i got around 60 suppositries for which i paid out of pocket. But the girl at the pharmacy told me that if the ivf is a success and i get pregnant, then i should ask my doc to prescribe the suppositries for me, so that insurance will cover it.

Good luck! these things do get too expensive.

My IVF clinic uses Prosperity Specialty Pharmacy and they call them in and the pharmacy called me right after I left the clinic when I got my schedule to get my info to ship to my house or to a pharmacy if I preferred. They are shipping to my house for free and will be here Tuesday via Fed Ex or UPS at no extra cost.

The prices for Lupron 2 week kit is $98 and then Menopur 75 IU is $69.00 and Bravelle 75 IU is $52.00.

Not sure how this stacks up to anywhere else.

Thanks ladies, I am doing Follistim and Menopur. I am waiting on a call ball from the nurse. I want them to file the appeal before I order meds. Maybe I can get them to approve it before I have to pay out of pocket for anymore. I started Lupron this morning, so we are locked in as off now lol. I dont start stims until the 26th so I have a little over a week before I have to order meds.

We spent $3500 on meds for our first attempt at IVF last month (my insurance did pay $110.38). I was taking Follistim 450IU a day with the pen. This med alone was $3048. We used Mandell Pharmacy. The doctor’s office called in the meds and they called me immediately to place the order. They were very nice and sent some hershey kisses with the large box of meds.:o Unfortunately I did not respond to the meds so the cycle was stopped after 11 days.:grr: Luckily the doctors office was able to give me some samples of the Follistim to get us through the extra couple of days so we did not spend another $3000. The Follistim is over filled so we tried to get every last drop which is easy with the pen- it just meant more shots each day. Good luck!

Those are good prices. About 25% lower than Freedom, from what I can tell, and I’d always heard Freedom was pretty reasonable.

Ask your doctor for free/leftover meds

A friend of mine who did IVF gave me the tip of asking my clinic if they had any leftover meds since my insurance doesn’t cover anything. My clinic was able to cover a few days of stims this way :cheer:

I’m getting the rest of my meds from Village Fertility Pharmacy, by mail order. They have coupons they could apply - one free Follistim vial, one free Ganirelix shot, and one free trigger shot. They can also enroll you in discount programs to reduce the cost of some meds.

I used ivfpharmacy.com for most of my meds. They are overseas, but it’s the same products as you get here (name brands, no generics). However, everything is half the price of meds here. I’m on maximum doses of 600iu follistim and 150 menopur a day and it cost $3100. Had we purchased it in the states, it would have cost almost twice that.
