What questions should we ask Dr? We are new to this!

#1

Hi there,
I am new to this site, and all of this, really. My DH and I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year, naturally. My gyn finally decided to have my DH do a SA. We got the results back two days ago, and his count was very low, 3 mill. He referred us to a Urologist, which our first appt is tomorrow. I would like to know what questions we need to ask? What should we expect at this first appointment with the Urol.?

My gyn told us that we have a chance of getting pregnant thru IUI or IVF. If we decide to see a fertility specialist, we will need to go to Dallas (we live in Tyler). What questions do we need to ask the fertility doctor? We are feeling very overwhelmed, scared, and heartbroken, and want to make sure we ask all the right questions so we can make the right decision. This is all happening so fast!

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and God bless all of you on your journey’s! http://www.dfwareamoms.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

When I went to the urologist they wanted me to do another SA that day. Luckily I’d just barely had enough abstinance for it. Since you had one just a couple days ago they may want to wait, but I’m pretty sure the urologist will want to retest. I’m sure there will be a physical exam of your husband. I was also given an ultrasound to check for varicoceles.

The main thing I think is to just be sure you understand what the results mean. If IUI is recommened, you might want to ask if the urologist or the obgyn can perform that. It’s relatively simple compared with IVF.

Start treating the real cause

Hi,
My DH also has a low sperm count. We also went to a urologist that told us one thing, then to another urologist that told us another thing. In any case, the fertility treatment with low sperm count is on you, not your husband.
I read a lot through the forums and learned that sperm count can be fixed. It requires some Vitamins, Minerals and Amino Acids. Originally I thought I am going to buy for my DH each supplement separatly and make sure he takes them during the day. Eventually I found a complex called Vitamale (in naturules.com) that contains everything I read about in the right quantity. My DH took it for 3 months and his count went from 6M to over 40M.
Whatever the urologist tells you, I would add Vitamale to support the treatment.
I am now 9 weeks pregnant.

Sara.
